I’m excited to be doing this show again Joes Pub with Rome Neal and all these talented singers & musicians. Last year “All Out Jazz” was a blast, its good to be apart of the Fresh Fruit Festival again.

LGBT Artists Jazz in New York City

Thanks to Rome Neal, I and a number of LGBT artists had the opportunity to perform jazz standards at the Nuyorican Poet’s Cafe in the East Village. This was the Tribute to LGBT artists and LGBT Jazz Greats. Each performer did a song by an LGBT Jazz Great – like Cole Porter, Bessie Smith and Andy Bey. We did the show at Joe’s Pub and then at Rome Neal’s banana pudding jazz series.

“Spring Rain” is a result of an internet collaboration. I met Mike Ibrahim on myspace and instantly loved his music. It was a pleasant surprise that he liked mine as well, so we decided to work together… but Mike lives in Paris and I live in NYC – so we emailed music files back and forth. Mike wrote this beautiful song.

I think it’s important that we enjoy time by ourselves and with ourselves. This song celebrates time alone and life’s little personal luxuries like… watching a sunrise on the beach, or enjoying a bubble bath while listening to music. Its jazzy and fun:)

Wade in the Water Lyrics

I would walk the long way home from school in Guyana so I could pass by the ocean. I’ve always found the water beautiful and inspiring. “Wade in the Water” is about that experience growing up. The ocean with all its beauty is also a dangerous place – I believe in this world beauty and danger go hand in hand – what do you think?
