In a world where there is so little affirmation, I’m happy there are platforms like the OUTMusic Awards, that shine a spotlight on the music created in our community. Why wait for someone else to give us a stamp of approval, lets create our own stamp and approve of ourselves. Lets celebrate like only we can. The OMAs may not be the Grammys or the AMAs, but I’m sure even those organizations had to crawl before running.
My Favorite OUTMusic Award Moments
So here’s to celebrating – some of last year’s highlights. Aired on LOGO TV, some of my favorite moments. (The crew had to film this a couple times before it came out right, but I got it together – don’t you think:) This year’s OMAs are scheduled for May 23 at the Irving Plaza in NYC. Tickets are available now, see you there:)
A big thank you to Jeannine Otis for letting us film at the historic St. Marks Church, and Bob Schaffer for letting us film at his NYC penthouse. To my leading man Ron Hill ~ thank you for being gay for a day:) To my director and producer – Kirk Shannon-Butts and Adrian Lopez, you guys delivered another spectacularly beautiful video! Yasuaki Nakajima our cinematographer – you are the best! And finally to my manager RSM, thanks for making all this happen.

“Joy in the Morning” is one of my mom’s favorite songs and its the first song I ever sang in church. I was about 5 and my sister played the piano for me then (she is also playing the piano here). This is at my mom’s birthday celebration. Watch and enjoy:)
