LGBT Artists Jazz in New York City

Nhojj | August 15th, 2008 - 11:41 am

Thanks to Rome Neal, I and a number of LGBT artists had the opportunity to perform jazz standards at the Nuyorican Poet’s Cafe in the East Village. This was the Tribute to LGBT artists and LGBT Jazz Greats.   Each performer did a song by an LGBT Jazz Great – like Cole Porter, Bessie Smith and Andy Bey.  We did the show at Joe’s Pub and then at Rome Neal’s banana pudding jazz series.

Acoustic Soul Version of Music

Nhojj | August 11th, 2008 - 10:52 am

The performance was so much fun – Atlanta is the place to perform, the audience gave nothing but love to me and my acoustic soul. I did a cover of India.Aries “Brown Skin” – such a great song (I wish I wrote it:)

Gay Black Christian & Gospel Music

Nhojj | August 10th, 2008 - 10:54 am

This was an amazing experience for me.  Singing “His Eye is on the Sparrow” in gay black christian affirming church had such a profound effect on me.   Rehoboth Temple in Harlem is a predominantly black gay church, but is welcoming to everyone.  It was so affirming to reclaim this gospel music that I love and sing it for a congregation of gay black christians who really understood what I was singing about.

A little Reggae:)

Nhojj | November 3rd, 2007 - 11:26 am

I love performing this song “The Beggar’s Cup” – its my reggae song and growing up in the Caribbean, we all love reggae. Its one of those songs that wrote itself. I sat on the bathroom floor in my apartment in Staten Island and this song just flowed. In about 15 minutes it was done. Enjoy:)

This was my first gig with my band. We performed two sets at Tillies Cafe in Brooklyn, New York. It was a lot of fun and also a lot of work… lol but I think everyone was happy at the end. This is “Music” off of “Soul Comfort.”
